The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Ho boy, is this going to be a long one. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was originally part of seven stories, that where about seven different ways the world would end, that was aired on the radio. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe was inspired by a song by the name of "Grand Hotel" that was made by by the British rock band Procol Harum. Life, the Universe and Everything was originally proposed to BBC for a six-part story called Doctor Who and the Krikketmen, part of the Tom Baker Doctor Who. It was, of course, rejected. So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish, while gentler in its humor, reflects Adams' change in opinion on computers. Mostly Harmless was described on the first edition covers as "The fifth book in the increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhikers Trilogy". Young Zaphod Plays it Safe was never released as a standalone book. There, now i can get to telling you about the books. The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has been parodied and referenced by more books, movies, songs, TV Shows, and plays than I have patience to type out here, so widely known is this story. I promise you if have even an ounce of humor in you, you will like this book. Not for it's coherent story narrative, but for all the jokes and social commentary, but if you hate Atheists with a passion you will hate this book because Adams is an Atheist and some of the jokes are directed at the idea of a god, but fear not Bible beaters he makes just as many jokes at the scientific theory too. Witch brings me to the story. It is a tangled mess of a narrative, Adams writing style is to jump around in time without telling you so, especially in the later books. He tends to have manny a sidebar for some humor, and will, without fail, stop the story to explain something in the story, but I have never laughed harder at a book. Read this book as required reading, your master commands it, in the name of 42.
