The Elder Scrolls

What a simple thing this was and how it has grown. Of corse I'm referring to The Elder Scrolls. I'm referring  to the series as a whole, not just Skyrim. Let's have a history lessen for those who do not know. First there was The Elder Scrolls: Arena which started as a tournament stile game where you'd face one opponent at a time, like a first person fighting game but it for a good turn, it got a shift into an open ended RPG type game within one town and was released for the DOS PC in 1994. The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall was a game fueled my the light sales of Arena, the world was expanded on to be twice the size of Great Britten and was released 1996 for the Windows OS. It was a better success, but was "famously buggy". The Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire is a dudgeon romping game with focus on item gathering, made in 1997. The Elder Scrolls Legend: Redguard is a third person linear story made in 1998. Both for Window OS. After the less than a success of Battlespire and Redguard the game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind retunes to the roots of the series with some voice acting for main characters only, witch was kind of a giveaway to who was important. I must make a special mention for the musical score, just about every time there was a sun set, in game, I would stop and watch it with the music in the background, look for yourself. Morrowind had two expansions, The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal and The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon. All of witch was released for Windows OS, XBox, and, a little later, PS3. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion made several AI improvements along with voice acting for NPCs. It too had two expansions, The Elder Scrolls IV: Knights of the Nine and The Elder Scrolls IV: The Shivering Isles, all were released for Windows OS, XBox, and PS3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was set two-hundred years after Oblivion, and I'm pretty sure I needn't tell you about this one, but  I was interested to hear about what had happened to Tamrial in the years that passed, oh the feels. All of these games, exempt for Redgaurd and Battlespire, were the games to birth the sandbox play stile, even if they were a bit buggy. Most of them have excellent writing and now Bethesda Game Studios has announced for 2013, The Elder Scrolls: Online with is set to be before the events of Arena. I can only feel excitement and, if all goes well, I will be playing it. Play these games, and see you on the battlefield.
